Our Philosophy:

St. Andrew’s Nursery School admits students of any race, color, nationality or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policy, admissions policy or other school administered programs.

We seek to encourage each child:

  • to be an individual
  • to be independent
  • to get along with peers
  • to enjoy school
  • to find learning an exciting experience
  • to be comfortable as a member of a group

A typical day includes:

  • A balance of free play and structure
  • Music
  • Arts and crafts
  • Flag salute and non-denominational prayer
  • Story time
  • Snack
  • Clean-up
  • Playground time (weather permitting)

A typical week includes:

  • Focus on science and nature, community or self
  • Cutting
  • Number, shape, color, and/or alphabet awareness
  • Pre-reading and pre-writing skills
  • Show and tell
  • Painting
  • Gross motor development
  • Fine motor development

A CHILD’S FIRST INTRODUCTION to school can be frightening. Care will be taken to provide an atmosphere of love and security in the classroom while still allowing freedom for the self-development of each child. This is a big step on the way to independence.

Parents will be notified if undue problems should arise in the classroom.  Parent/Teacher Conferences are held in January, February, and March.

BECAUSE EACH CHILD develops at his or her own rate, it is important not to compare your child’s work with that of others. We are more concerned with the process than the product.

OUR GOAL is to give the children the opportunity to grow and mature at their own level while working, playing, and sharing in group situations. WITH YOUR HELP, we can offer a program designed to meet the needs of each child that will promote growth: SOCIALLY, EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, and INTELLECTUALLY, in an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and support.

We strive to coordinate our efforts with ancillary professionals to meet the goals of children with special needs, as well as refer parents to outside services when necessary.  We cooperate with parents to accommodate children with allergies and run a peanut-free program.
