Congregational Council Members & Council Highlights
The Congregational Council meets the second Tuesday of each month. If you have a concern or question, please feel free to contact
a Council member.
The Church Council met on November 12th. All members were in attendance. Below are some highlights from the meeting.
Celebrations: A new member reception was discussed for Dec. 1st.
Calendar/Building Use: Use of the sanctuary was discussed for a wedding in October, 2020.
Staff Reports: Administrators are looking into new copier lease proposals. Council reviewed a detailed report from the recent Parish Secretaries’ Seminar.
Treasurer’s Report: Expenses were lower than normal last month due to no Pastoral Ministry expenses, although Worship and Music is over budget due to the cost of supply pastors.
Youth/Family: There was discussion regarding the Christmas Pageant and children assisting in worship.
Property: New lighting for the Social Room. One light will be replaced as a test before replacing all. SAW may help with the cost. Repair is also needed to the sign in front of the church. Property is also looking over bids for snow removal, which will include sidewalks.
Community Care: Safe Harbor dinner is scheduled for 12/15. The Giving Tree will be up on 11/17. It was suggested that we obtain the name of those taking a Giving Tree card to help keep track of gifts coming in.
Resource Management: The SAW Christmas Communion Service and Lunch-eon will be held on Wednesday, December 18.
Congregational Care: Marge will attend the NSB meeting on Nov. 18.
Spiritual Gifts: Additional volunteers are desperately needed as ushers, acolytes, and to run the sound system. It was also reported that fewer commit-ment cards have been returned this year with pledges down 25%.
Worship and Music: On December 22nd, there will be one 9am service due to the Cantata, which replaces the sermon. With the elimination of the 10pm service this Christmas Eve, there was discussion regarding the possibility of needing to seat people in the Social Room. In this case, there would be a screen set up to view the service live with assistants to give communion (by intinction). Our December 29th service will be a Hymn Sing at 9am. There will be no communion or pastor that day.
New Business: Council will meet with the Call Committee and Pastor Neel on Sunday, November 24th.
